Results on EU-Strategy-Workshop in Bratislava, April 5, 2006

The Workshop "The new EU-Africa Strategy and its implementation - Recommendations from a Central European Perspective" was a first successful step for the Regional Partnership Programme in building up a structured dialogue between NGOs and MFAs of the participating countries.

Representatives of NGOs and Governments from the partner countries such as Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary and Austria obtained the possibility to learn about the EU policy on Africa and to discuss upcoming expectations and concerns directly with the interested audience. A vivid discussion, the get-together and the mutual exchange of experiences were the best promotion for the regional partnership!

The workshop took place in Bratislava where 66 participants listened to the inputs of Denise Auclair (EU-Development Policy Officer, CIDSE/Caritas Europe) who presented the participants a good overview of the EU-Africa-Strategy its objectives, effects and challenges.
Caroline Gudenus (Head of Subsaharan African Unit, Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) elaborated on the implementation of the EU-Africa-Strategy within the Austrian EU-Presidency.

In listening to the different country reports which representatives from NGOs and MFAs had prepared the audience gained a very good survey of present and future possibilities of Central European Cooperation with Africa.

The three Working Groups in the afternoon on Human rights and Government / Aid and Trade / Policy Coherence initiated various discussions from which we hope that they will be continued in the EU-Africa-Strategy Conference "SOUND OF AFRICA" in Vienna (22-23 June 2006).
